I’m thinking he died of starvation on the boat.  He probably got to an area that was good for sleeping on the land.  He died because when he was on lots of journeys and things, and when Hudson and his crew spent a hard winter in a log hut starving without eating.  The angry crews that was with Hudson put Hudson and his son out the boat and gave them a small boat with no oars and left them in the bay.  And no one ever seen them again.
